Paolo Nutini – Jenny Don’t Be Hasty

Paola Nutini is a 26-year-old Scottish/Italian singer-songwriter. Rather than go into the family fish and chip business, he was encouraged by his grandfather to pursue a music career.

Nutini’s 2006 album, These Streets, hit #3 in the UK charts and went quadruple platinum. It remained in the charts for a record breaking 3 and a half years. Jenny Don’t Be Hasty, the second single from it, is my favorite of his. For whatever reason, it never cracked in the US.

When Nutini released Sunny Side Up in 2009, the record debuted at #1. It also won Best International Album at the Meteor Awards (the Irish Grammys). Nutini’s supported The Rolling Stones, Amy Winehouse, and KT Tunstall. He’s been known to sing entire sets with his eyes closed.

You said you’d marry me if I was 23
But I’m one that you can’t see if I’m only 18
Tell me who made these rules
Obviously not you
Who are you answering to?

Oh, Jenny don’t be hasty
No, don’t treat me like a baby
Let me take you where you’ll let me
Because leaving just upsets me

I’ll be around again to see the other men
They’re more adequate in the age department
I did not think you cared.
There’d be no problems here
But now you’re looking at me like you’re disgusted
Then I’m definitely waiting for you to smile and change your mind
Then I’ll say I’m sorry and I’ll wrap my arms ’round your body
I really hope that you forgive in a hurry
And don’t just ask me to leave

Oh, Jenny don’t be hasty
Don’t treat me like a baby
Let me take you where you’ll let me
Because leaving just upsets me

Oh, Jenny you are crazy!
First I’m perfect, then I’m lazy
And I was calling you my baby
Now it sounds like you just left me.
And it kills me!
